Artist Statement

My sculptures are an exploration of emotion and connection through the juxtaposition of materials and forms. Primarily working with bronze and wood, I combine elements that might seem dissimilar—like local, southwestern animals and human objects—to reveal the complex relationships between humanity and the natural world. This blending of unexpected components echoes the surrealist tradition, challenging perceptions and inviting the viewer to delve into the subconscious.

Raised in the rural Southwest, my art is deeply influenced by my experiences living in this unique landscape. The animals, imagery, and themes I use are all rooted in the environment around me, but my work also reflects the universal, emotional connections that tie humans to the world we inhabit. I aim for my sculptures to evoke a visceral response, inviting the viewer to reflect on their own relationship with nature, identity, and the mysteries of the world.

My artistic journey began with drawing in my youth, but it wasn’t until college, where I was exposed to a wide range of media, that I found my true medium in sculpture. Sculpture allows me to engage in an intuitive, tactile process—one where I can physically shape my thoughts and emotions, giving form to the intangible. Each piece is an exploration of how we process, understand, and connect with the world around us.

I want my work to resonate emotionally with others, to create a space for reflection, and to spark a deeper awareness of the complex beauty and strangeness of life.
